Paul Phillips
A Miracle Beyond Medicine: My Journey from Darkness to Light
My name is Paul Marrion Phillips, and I would like to share my testimony with you. I was born April 22,1968, in Tucson, Arizona USA. At the time of my birth my father, James Phillips, had been drafted into the military, and was stationed in Korea. I was born with glaucoma. I had no pupils and no tear ducts. My eyes were solid grey. No color.
The doctor told my mother I would never see the light of day. They did emergency surgery at 1-day old, removing my eyeballs and poking holes clean through them to relieve pressure (because of the lack of tear ducts in my eyes), because they said the built-up pressure would pop my eyes out. In doing so, they destroyed my eyes. They said that surgery would be required every month, possibly for the rest of my life.
I had the surgery at one day old, one month old, and two months old. When they would take a flash picture of me I would never blink. My mother put a prayer cloth on me that was prayed over by Rev. William Marrion Branham. My grandfather, who was a minister, prayed for me. Other friends and relatives were praying for me. The military flew my Dad from overseas for a two-week furlough because of my situation.
Before my third month surgery, Mom seen me grabbing at the mobile on my crib. Mom called the doctor and said I could see. The doctor said this is completely impossible, he will never even see the slightest hint of light. Mom brought me in to see the doctor. They said I watched the doctor walk around the bed. He said this is a miracle, no doctor can do this, only God.
Since then I have had the opportunity to fly airplanes, to drive a semi-truck for millions of miles. I can see 20-20 if I squint. As a grandpa I wear glasses to read.
As a truck driver, I am required to get a DOT Physical every few years. After I had been driving a semi-truck for some time, having had all the necessary medical testing done, it was time to have my Physical renewed. I just so happened to be in Arkansas, USA when I needed to get this exam done.
The doctor that was available, unbeknown to me, was an atheist. He looked in my eyes and seen scars from where the surgeries had been performed, and saw I had two different size pupils. So he asked me what happened. I told him my testimony. Being an atheist, he said this is impossible. Even though I had just read his chart on the wall with no glasses and was able to read 20-20, he put me on a machine that could read my prescription.
The machine showed I was blind in both eyes. It showed I was beyond 180-20 which is the furthest range that machine could read. He denied my physical and said I was blind and said I had to go to an ophthalmologist to sign off that my eyes were fine before I would be approved to drive. I found the closest ophthalmologist that was available. The lady had a small office. She looked in my eyes, did all the tests. She told me she was a Pentecostal, and she marveled at my testimony. But while looking in my eyes she said I know God healed you, but you can't see color.
The cones, which are responsible for color vision, were destroyed in both my eyes from those surgeries. She said it was impossible for me to see color. I told her, no, I see full color. She said you just think you can, but I can prove to you you don't. She proceeded to bring out these charts with similar colored dots that contained numbers and letters buried in the charts. A color-blind person is not able to differentiate the numbers or letters because of the colors being so similar. However, I was able to read off each letter and number without fail. She began speaking in tongues and shouting, saying this is only God, as that part was completely destroyed in my eyes.
This miracle was not due to the prayer cloth, the prayers, or who prayed. But who they all prayed to - Jesus Christ. But the greatest miracle was in October 1990 when he healed my spiritual sight at an altar and filled me with the Holy Ghost.
